Intergas boilers
Intergas is genuinely different from most combis, not just differently branded: its design removes the diverter valve and plate heat exchanger that account for a large share of failures on conventional units. Fewer moving parts means fewer of the faults Ninja Plumbers spends most of its time on elsewhere. They are less common across London than the volume brands, but the people who own one usually chose it on purpose and know exactly why.
The Intergas range
Intergas is a Dutch manufacturer based in Coevorden, best known in the UK for combis such as the Combi Compact HRE and Xclusive. Most combis have a separate plate heat exchanger for hot water and a diverter valve switching between heating and hot water. In an Intergas the main heat exchanger does both jobs, with two separate water circuits built into it. Hybrid options with a heat pump are offered too.

An Intergas warranty usually depends on a yearly service, so check your warranty terms, which vary with the model and the installer. Because hot water runs through the main heat exchanger rather than a separate plate, limescale in hard London water still matters, and scale protection on the mains is worth having. So is clean heating water, with inhibitor and a filter.
Repair or replace?
An Intergas fault is usually worth repairing: there is less to go wrong, and the parts that fail — a sensor, fan, pump or the controls — are modest next to the price of a new boiler. Replacement makes sense when the main heat exchanger fails outside warranty on an older unit. If someone unfamiliar with the design wants to condemn a working one, get a second opinion.

- The heat exchanger design handles both heating and hot water without the separate diverter valve and secondary exchanger a conventional combi needs. Those two components are among the most common failures on other brands, so removing them removes a lot of the usual repair work.
- Is it hard to find someone who knows Intergas boilers?
