Retail plumbing and shop air conditioning in London

A leak in the stockroom or a blocked staff toilet is a small job at home but a real headache when you are trying to trade. Ninja Plumbers provides retail plumbing for independent shops, boutiques, convenience stores and showrooms across London and parts of Surrey. As your shop plumber we fix leaks, toilets, water heaters and heating, and our F-Gas certified engineers install and service air conditioning for shops. Registered electricians on the same team mean a new heater or cooling unit gets its circuit without a second contractor. We can work before opening, after closing or on your quiet day.

What premises like yours need

What do shops need from their plumbing, heating and electrics?

  • A staff toilet and basin that work

Most small shops have one WC and basin tucked behind the stockroom, sometimes shared with the unit next door. When it blocks or the cistern fails, staff have nowhere to go and you may have to close early. Workplace rules expect suitable toilets and hand-washing with hot and cold, or warm, water. Many shops rely on a small under-sink heater or an old cylinder, and both are simple to repair or replace.

  • Protection from leaks above and below

Shops often sit under flats, with bathrooms and kitchens directly over the sales floor or stockroom. A failed shower seal upstairs can bring water through a suspended ceiling onto stock or light fittings. Basement stores can take in water through old drains or a failed pump. Finding the true source quickly, and knowing where your own stopcock is, limits the damage and helps when you talk to the landlord or your insurer.

  • Cooling for customers and stock

Shopfront glazing, spotlights and a door that stays open all day can make a small shop hot and stuffy by mid-afternoon. Chocolate, cosmetics, flowers and electronics can all suffer in the heat. Air conditioning for shops is usually a wall-mounted or ceiling cassette split system, sized for the floor area, the glazing and the heat from lighting. Positioning matters, so the airflow reaches the shop floor without blowing straight onto the till.

  • Heating and electrics that suit trading

A cold shop sends customers back out quickly. Small units are often heated by a domestic-sized boiler, electric panel heaters or air conditioning that can heat as well as cool. Our Gas Safe engineers handle domestic-sized boilers; larger commercial boilers need engineers with commercial gas qualifications, and we will say so if yours is one. Our electricians add sockets for displays, fix tripping circuits and carry out periodic inspections.

Choosing air conditioning for a shop

Start with how the space is used. A narrow unit with a glass front heats up quickly, while a deep shop may be better served by two indoor units than one large one. Think about where the outdoor unit can go. Your lease will usually need landlord consent, and planning permission can be needed in some cases, such as conservation areas or listed buildings, so check before installation. A heat pump system can also heat in winter. Plan servicing too, as dusty filters cut performance.

Working around opening hours

Most shop jobs can be planned so you do not lose a trading day. We can isolate the water and replace a cistern, a water heater or a section of pipe before you open or after you close. Air conditioning installs involve drilling through walls and running pipework and cables, so we agree a schedule that keeps dust and ladders off the shop floor while customers are in. For genuine emergencies, we run a 24/7 callout.

What to check yourself

Know where your stopcock is and make sure it turns, as many shop stopcocks end up hidden behind stock or shelving. Look up at suspended ceiling tiles now and then, since a brown stain is often the first sign of a leak from above. If you have a basement with a sump pump, test it by pouring water into the sump and watching it start. Clean air conditioning filters as the manufacturer advises, and book a service each year.

Questions

Questions about plumbing for shops

Can you fit air conditioning in a leased shop?

Usually, yes, but you will normally need your landlord's consent first, and planning permission can be needed in some cases, such as conservation areas or listed buildings. We survey the shop, suggest where the indoor and outdoor units could go and give you the details your landlord is likely to ask for. The price is agreed before work starts.

Will I need to close my shop while you work?

Rarely. Most repairs can be done before opening, after closing or on your quietest day. Where the water has to be turned off, we plan it for a time that suits you and keep the shutdown as short as we can. Our engineers work tidily and keep tools and materials out of customers' way.

Water is coming through my shop ceiling from the flat above. What should I do?

Keep people clear, switch off any lighting or sockets the water is reaching, move stock away and contact the flat's occupant or building manager so they can turn off their supply. Take photos for your insurer. We run a 24/7 emergency callout, and we can trace the leak, make it safe and repair it if it falls to you.

Do you service air conditioning you did not install?

Yes, in most cases. Our F-Gas certified engineers service and repair most common wall-mounted, ceiling cassette and ducted split systems. On the first visit we check the filters, coils, condensate drain and cooling performance, and tell you honestly if a unit is near the end of its life. We can also set up a regular servicing schedule.

Can one visit cover plumbing and electrics?

Yes. Our team includes plumbers, Gas Safe engineers, registered electricians and air conditioning engineers. If you need a new water heater with its own circuit, or pipework and sockets moved during a shopfit, one team handles the lot. That means fewer visits, one point of contact and less disruption to your trading day.
