It is worth a word. On a terrace the gutter often runs straight on from one house to the next, and the joint at the boundary is a common leak, so fixing only your half may not stop the overflow. Access can also involve their side: a ladder in their front area, or a tower on shared ground. Sorting it out together can mean one visit instead of two.

They help in some places and not others. Under heavy leaf fall, a guard keeps the bulk of the leaves out and stretches the time between clearances. But fine debris — moss from the roof, seed from plane trees, silt — still gets through or builds up on top, and a guarded gutter is fiddlier to clear when it does need it. They reduce maintenance rather than remove it.
