Plumbing and electrics under one roof
A lot of jobs in a home need both trades. An electric shower needs a dedicated circuit as well as the water supply. A new bathroom needs lighting, an extractor fan and often a shaver socket alongside the pipework. A boiling water tap needs a socket under the sink. A leak that has reached a light fitting needs the plumbing fixed and the wiring checked. How an electrical visit works
Tell us what is happening when you get in touch: which circuit or room, what trips or stops working, and anything that seems to set it off. The electrician tests to find the cause rather than swapping parts until something works, explains what they found, and gives you a price for the repair before starting. For planned work, such as a new fan or extra sockets, we can often give you an idea from photos first, then confirm the price on site before any work begins.
Electrics in London homes
London housing throws up the same electrical issues again and again. Period houses converted into flats often have circuits that were split, extended and re-routed by successive owners, so what is on each breaker is not always what the label says. Older installations may still have fuse boards without modern RCD protection. Bathrooms and kitchens squeezed into small spaces often have extractor fans that were never up to the job, which shows up as condensation and mould. And in blocks of flats, water from the flat above is a common reason for a light or socket to fail. These are the jobs we are used to dealing with across the capital.
Stay safe until we get there
If you smell burning, see scorch marks, or a socket or switch feels hot, stop using it and switch that circuit off at the consumer unit if you can do so safely. If water has reached any electrics, switch off at the main switch as long as the consumer unit and the floor in front of it are dry, and keep out of that room. Do not keep resetting a breaker that trips straight away: it is telling you there is a fault.
What affects the price
We agree the price before any work starts. For a fault, the main factors are how long it takes to trace, how easy the wiring is to get to, and the age and condition of the installation. For new work, it is the number of points, the route the cable has to take, any making good afterwards, and the fittings you choose. Sending photos of the consumer unit and the area involved helps us give you a clearer idea from the start.
